Finding the Best Version of Yourself

Updated: Feb 2, 2024

In the hustle of modern life, it's become commonplace to ask, "How are you?" and

receive the response, "Fine." But what if fine isn't good enough? As a functional

medicine health coach, I believe we're facing an epidemic of feeling merely fine

when we are designed to feel fantastic. Our daily habits, from the foods we

consume to our stress levels and exposure to toxins, play a pivotal role in how we

experience life. In this blog post, we'll explore the reasons behind the epidemic and

discover how making intentional lifestyle changes can elevate us from feeling fine

to feeling fantastic.

The Culprits Behind Feeling Just Fine:

1. Processed foods and nutrient deficiencies

The prevalence of processed foods in our diets has skyrocketed, leading to a

decline in the quality of our nutrition. Essential nutrients are often stripped

away in the process, leaving us with calorie-rich but nutrient-poor diets. This

nutritional deficiency can manifest as fatigue, brain fog, and a general feeling of

mediocrity.

2. Stress

Our fast-paced, demanding lifestyles contribute significantly to stress, triggering

a cascade of hormonal responses that impact our overall well-being. Chronic

stress not only affects our mental health but also weakens the immune system

and leaves us feeling perpetually drained.

3. Toxic Exposure

From pollutants in the air we breathe, to chemicals in the products we use daily,

our bodies are constantly bombarded by toxins. These toxins can accumulate

and lead to a range of health issues, affecting everything from our energy levels

to our mood.

The Path to Feeling Fantastic:

1. Revolutionize your plate

Fill your plate with nutrient-dense foods that nourish your body. Embrace a

rainbow of fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Minimize your

consumption of processed and sugary foods, providing your body with the high-

quality fuel it deserves for optimal functioning. Just as you wouldn't fill a luxury

car with low-grade gas, treat your body with the same level of care and attention.

2. Manage your stress

Incorporate stress-reducing practices into your daily routine. Whether it's

meditation, deep breathing exercises, yoga, or a leisurely walk in nature, find

what resonates with you. By managing stress, you not only enhance your mental

well-being but also create an environment where your body can thrive.

3. Detoxify your environment

Take steps to minimize your exposure to toxins. Choose natural cleaning

products, be mindful of the air quality in your home, and consider the

ingredients in personal care products. A cleaner environment can contribute to

a healthier you.

4. Prioritize quality sleep

Ensure you are getting adequate, high-quality sleep. Sleep is a cornerstone of

overall well-being, impacting everything from cognitive function to immune

health. Create a bedtime routine and cultivate an environment conducive to

restful sleep.

5. Embrace Mindful living

Slow down and savor each moment. Incorporate mindfulness practices into your daily life, such as mindful eating, gratitude journaling, or simply taking moments to appreciate the present. By being present, you enhance your overall

sense of well-being.

Feeling fantastic is not a luxury reserved for a select few; it's a birthright that we

can all reclaim. By acknowledging the impact of our daily habits on our well-being

and making intentional choices, we can break free from the epidemic of feeling just

fine. As a functional medicine health coach, my mission is to guide you on this

journey, helping you unlock the vibrant, fantastic version of yourself that deserves

to thrive. Let's redefine what it means to be well and embrace a life that goes

beyond feeling fine—because you are too good to settle for anything less than

fantastic!
